How to send bot events to TikTok Events Manager
The TikTok pixel only works on your website, and everything inside a Telegram bot is invisible to your ads. For TikTok to see real leads, the event should be sent from the bot itself via the TikTok Events API to the same pixel in Events Manager, at the moment the person presses Start, together with the ttclid click ID passed from the site to the bot.
At an online academy, TikTok and Meta ads led to a webinar page, and registration happened in a Telegram bot. The Lead event was on the button that opens the bot, and at first glance everything worked.
But the ad account, bot and CRM showed three different numbers. Some people clicked several times, others opened Telegram and never pressed Start. The ads counted them as leads and learned to find exactly such people.
I suggested counting a lead not as a click on the site but as the moment the person presses Start in the bot. Once the bot started sending the event to the ad accounts itself, the numbers matched, and cost per lead in Meta dropped by 42%.
TikTok optimises for what it sees
The algorithm looks for people similar to those who completed the target action. If that action is a click, it brings people who click. A bot is invisible to the TikTok pixel, so without a server event the ads don't know who actually registered.
You need this if…
- TikTok ads lead to a Telegram bot directly or via a website
- The Lead event fires on the button that opens the bot
- Lead numbers in the ad account, bot and CRM don't match
- Cost per lead grows and you can't see why
If at least two of these apply, your ads are most likely learning from the wrong data.
What sending bot events to TikTok gives you
- Accurate optimisation. Campaigns learn from people who actually started the bot, not just clicked.
- Real cost per lead. TikTok Ads Manager numbers match the bot and CRM.
- Attribution. With ttclid, TikTok knows which ad brought the person to the bot.
- Resilience. The event is sent server-side, so browsers, AdBlock and iOS limits don't block it.
Pitfalls
- Lost ttclid. TikTok adds a click ID to the site URL, but a bot link only accepts a short parameter. A script on the site has to store ttclid and tags and pass them to the bot.
- Wrong event. For optimisation, pick a standard TikTok event, such as a registration or form submission, and use it consistently across campaigns.
- Duplicates. If the event comes from both the pixel and the server, you need a shared event_id, or TikTok counts the lead twice.
- Too little match data. Without hashed phone or email, match quality drops. Send them hashed with SHA-256.
- Access token. The Events API uses a token generated in Events Manager. Keep it safe and never share it.
The path of one event
Three approaches compared
Pixel on the bot buttonsimple but inaccurate
The event fires on every click, even if the person never starts the bot. The ads optimise for clicks.
Event from the CRM via Makebetter
When a lead appears in the CRM, a scenario sends the event to TikTok. More accurate, but delayed and often without ttclid.
Event from the bot via TikTok Events APImost accurate
The site passes ttclid and UTM to the bot, and after Start the bot sends the event to Events Manager right away.
The ads finally saw real leads
For an online school with a webinar funnel I set up events from a Telegram bot to both the TikTok Events API and the Meta Conversions API. A script on the site passes tags and click IDs to the bot, and the Lead event reaches the ad accounts only after Start.

How do I send an event from a Telegram bot to TikTok?
Via the TikTok Events API: after Start, the bot sends an API request with the event, ttclid and hashed contacts to the pixel in TikTok Events Manager.
What is ttclid and why do I need it?
It's the click ID TikTok adds to links from ads. It helps TikTok match the event to the ad, so store it on the site and pass it to the bot.
Can one event go to both TikTok and Meta?
Yes. The bot can send the event to the TikTok Events API and the Meta Conversions API at the same time, each with its own click ID.
Which event should I optimise for in TikTok?
A standard event that best matches your goal, such as registration or form submission, used consistently across campaigns.
Do I need a website if ads lead straight to the bot?
A landing page lets you store ttclid and tags the bot wouldn't otherwise get. Without it, attribution is less accurate.
